I've been sewing and studying!!

I'm back....did you miss me?  Oh, you didn't realize I was gone huh....I kind of figured...lol!!!  I've been busy with school stuff.
Well I'm glad you're here now to see what I have to show you.

I've been working on different ways to sew my bags.  Like one handle instead of two or using batting instead of interfacing, buttons and zippers, pockets or no pockets.  This bag has no pockets, I used batting and is big and squishy and I totally love it!!

I call it - The Squishy Catch-All tote.
(Sorry for the bad pics, we've had some rain and I could never get any good lighting from the window.)

You can just throw anything in there.

Thread Sketching - Owl Pillow project

Okay, if you haven't noticed yet, my go to projects are always going to be a pillow or a bag.  This weeks project is a pillow as you can see.  I thought I'd try my hand at thread sketching...basically drawing with the sewing machine.

Some people use a darning foot, but I don't have one so a regular presser foot is just fine.  I freehand drew the owl.  If drawing is not your best skill don't worry you can trace any pic you want.  The lines being sewn don't have to be perfect anyway.

See...not very perfect.  I used different stitches that were available on my machine for the eyes.  The rest was just sewing lines, back stitching, and turning my piece around.

More non-perfectness.  I used interfacing and batting when I sewed the owl.  Gives it that squishy, wrinkly, quilt like look.

My favorite part was the eyes.

For the rest of the pillow I just did freehand quilting lines.

I finished it off by adding a blue just like the eye's for the back.  I really enjoy the technique of thread sketching.  It's really fun to do.

Thanks for stopping by to view the new project.  Everyone have a fabulous week.

Summer vacation is over....

Why do the weekends go by so quickly? Because time sure does fly when you're having fun that's why, lol.   This was the last free weekend for everyone here in Houston.  School starts Monday....so does the crazy traffic, the getting caught behind school buses, and the waking up super early to avoid all of this.  I myself will start my evening classes on Tuesday...yay!!  So, for everyone that starts school tomorrow good luck and have a fantastic semester.

Now for this weeks project.  My next project will probably be in two weeks, just till I get situated with my class schedule.

I'm showing off a new tote that I made for my niece Aubrey.  It was for her second birthday.  I really enjoy sewing and making thing for my loved ones and for myself.

Red on the inside.

For this tote bag I sewed a double pocket on the outside for some extra storage.

If you make it, then tag it.  My tag "Fifi Made This"

Okay are you ready to be attacked with cuteness.....really how can you not love this.  I made this as the special little add-on for the tote.

After about 7 different variations, I really liked the way I drew this little elephant.  I then traced on felt and sewed on the extra little pieces.  Then I drew the letter "A"  for her name and made it too.  Cute huh!  Her birthday theme was "Circus".

This has to be my favorite tote that I have made so far.

Until next time!  Thanks for stopping by.

"fruits" from the garden

Sadly, not my garden.  I don't even have a garden and the last time I checked, none of my flowers were sprouting fruits or veggies.

This yummy snack was from my friends garden!! She was sweet enough to give me some.

I cucumbers!
They're so refreshing to eat.

These were washed, peeled, sliced and seasoned with salt, pepper and lemon.......DELISH!!

Cucumber facts:

Fruit or Veggie

From a scientific perspective the part of the cucumber plant that we enjoy is a fruit. The cucumber has seeds and is formed from the flower of the plant. At the same time, a cucumber is a vegetable as well. How can a cucumber be a fruit and a vegetable you might ask? The term vegetable is solely used in culinary terms so as far as cooking is concerned, a fruit can be a vegetable, but scientifically speaking, the cucumber is a fruit.

Much of the nutritional value of the cucumber is found in the skin.
Cucumbers are high in vitamins A and C, calcium, and fiber.
Mostly water and nutritional yumminess, cucumbers are very low in calories.
  • Cucumber Fact #1 : Cucumbers are natural diuretics used to help lose weight!
  • Cucumber Fact #2 : Cucumbers sold in supermarkets are coated with a thin layer of wax for preservation that gives the cucumber an unnatural shine. Most of the cucumbers in the home garden are naturally dull green.
  • Cucumber Fact #3 : Soak slicing cucumbers in salt water before slicing to suck some of the moisture out of the cucumber. Sliced cucumbers leak water when sliced.
  • Cucumber Fact #4 : Sliced cucumbers release water and can be used to moisturize the skin. Slices of cucumber placed on the eyes is a common remedy for wrinkles around the eyes.
Enjoy some today!

New Accessories to wear

I've been a busy little bee!  Before I get to what I've been up to I have a rant...just a little rant and it's not bad.
Here it goes - I luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrvve -> (that's LOVE in the crazy language) to wear accessories. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, broaches, scarves, hair flair everything!  Buuuuutttt this rant is about bracelets,  I don't know about you but I have come across some really cute bracelets {not the elastic stretchy kind}. I go to try them on and guess what....it doesn't go over my Fiona/Shrek hand....I mean who are the models for these things - skeletons...because I could barely get it over my fingers.  Okay I do have a pretty wide knuckle  maybe about 3 ½ inches.  Is that really big?  I don't think so, but whatever...my point is they don't fit.  I have to put the cute bracelet back and pout about how my sausage fingers barely made it through the bracelet. So I've come to my solution - buy stretchy or cuff bracelets oooooorrrrrr I can make them myself.

Now I can show you what I've been up to.

I'm glad I have tons of scrap fabric to use.

I'm going to make like a million of these bracelets!

Yup....in every single color too!

The green one above is by far my favorite!!! And guess what....they slip over my hand easily.  I love them and I am really happy with the results.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you like them.

Knitting + being careful = big fail

Hey guys! Remember a couple of weeks ago when I was showing off my new fancy skill that I was learning and had a cute photo showing off the fancy skill....remember?
I guess this happens when you're a knitting newbie, huh!
As soon as I cut I screamed....Noooooooooooooooooo!

I can't believe that I did this. I was being super careful too....okay maybe I wasn't paying attention or something distracted me. Like grabbing the pair of scissors or making sure the ball of yarn was to my left...so when I got the scissors I would cut the string to my right.
Oh well...it's fixed! Now I can continue knitting the worlds longest scarf! lol!  At the rate I'm going it will be done by next winter and will be long enough to keep the hubs and myself super warm!

Pinkberry Frozen Yogurt finally comes to Houston...well sort of!

i do not own this photo!
So, now that it's here are like really famous people
gonna go there now?  Probably not, lol!

Any whoooo......

I'm really excited for it, I like to see all the hype when the 1st "whatever" comes to Houston!

In my opinion they should have built the 1st one in the Galleria Area.  They have everything else there and it would be in the up-town part of the city.  Nope, it's in the Baybrook (ClearLake/Webster) area allllllll the way on the other side of Texas, geez! Okay not really, Baybrook is south of Houston heading down to Galveston basically. It is really pretty there, don't get me wrong! It's just I'm a little miffed because I would have to drive over an hour to have it (you know with Houston traffic).

Oh well....
at least my side of town got the 1st Carl's Jr., Yeah buddy!!
*sidenote - i have yet to go to it, lol!! I have been to the ones in Cali.

I guess I'll just be happy with my Cheesecake with pecans waffle cone from our local "slab of the marble", (yes, that's what I call it) or the most delish Chocolate w/ peanut butter swirls from Baskin!!  YUMMY!

Okay, I just made myself hungry!!

What's your flavor?

First work week of the year!!

I'm soooo dreading going back to work tomorrow! I know it was only Thursday that I was there...but that's so last year.   Okay instead of making a ridiculous resolution, I am calling it a "promise" - (yes..please do the quotations with your hands in the air) that I would attempt to wake up early and actually do something with my hair instead of the usual pony tail and also to get to work early.

This year will be my 11th year with the company....and basically I've been late every single day!  I honestly don't know why they haven't let me go...Oh, probably cause they do see some value in having me there!!  That's the only thing that I can come up with.  Anyways that's one of the things I'm gonna try to do this year.

Also I will try and lose 10lbs or 5....let me go ahead and make it 5, you know keep it easy!  Well try to lose 5 pounds by my birthday.  I think that's reasonable, I don't want to get burned out with 7 days a week exercise and the thought of losing 75lbs by summer....yeah...highly unlikely!!  But, I already cheated! Honey and I already hit up McDonald's....so this weight thing will be a work in progress...hehehe!!

Okay, that's it for tonight! I have to get to bed if I wanna keep that whole getting to work early thing alive!!

wow, this is kind of scary!

Well this is my very first Blog....  Yes, I'm late with all of the Internet blogging thing.  I told myself I would start a blog and do something quite amazing, different, and exciting.  Of course this was all after seeing the movie Julie&Julia....I was like hey, if she could do something that was so cool and out there then maybe I could too!!

Sadly that never happened!  I started my spring semester of college and I was taking an Drama class....so now I think I just want to be famous and be in movies and make lots of money and so on... but that's kind of a hard thing to do!!   So we'll see where that road leads.   Even if I never become some A-list actress I just want to be in a movie....just to know how to do it.   I'm not talking like porno....gross! lol!!   But a real MOVIE!!   Maybe be an extra in one of George Clooney's movie....(he's pretty hot, and I doubt I would care if I had a speaking role or were just getting his plane ticket in the scene)!!  Then I want to write books, or maybe write songs.....I just want to do everything.   But, for now I'm getting my degree in Medical Diagnostic Sonography.   I'm glad that I have a very supportive hubby who is always there to encourage me in whatever I do... "LoveYouB!"

Okay....that's way off of the subject I was intending to write out.   Anyways, this is my first blog.  I hope to write many, many more others in this upcoming NewYear!!   I hope that people will read what I post and like what I have to say.....if not I really don't care this is really for me!  So yeah we'll see where this thing leads me.

That's it for now.....
