It's my party and I'll cry if I want to......

Well, today is my birthday!!  I feel like I just celebrated it last week.  I can't believe it's been a whole year already.

Here I am.....lil ole me!!  Honestly how old do I look to you?

I look 21 huh.....if only that were true, lol!

Is it me or what, but as I age I feel like I have no patience,  I get annoyed easily,  I get grumpy when I don't have my Sunday afternoon nap.  I forget everything - the Hubs says because my head is already full with too much information.  He's so sweet.

I just want to say that I am so thankful to be here and that I am able to share this day with my friends and family.  I'm thankful for the sweetest hubby in the whole wide world.  I tell him that he's lucky because I don't ask for much, even though he would gladly fulfill my every want.  This year for my birthday all I "want" are 5 things:

1.  A bicycle - yup I've been wanting a bike for a while!

2.  A darning foot for my sewing machine - I have quilts that I want to finish up with some fancy designs.

3.  Amazon gift card - $25 bucks should do it! I like to buy books for my kindle fire and since I'm a cheap-o queen I like to buy the books that are 99 cents.

4.  Since I have class tonight, I want to have a dinner date on Friday at our favorite Mexican restaurant.

and.....

5.  A crawfish boil with my friends and family this weekend. YUMMMMMM!

See....not too much right?

We'll see what happens!

Happy New Year!

What a year!!  I can't believe that there are only a couple of hours left for this 2012 year.  I would like to wish everyone a safe, wonderful and prosperous new year.

I am so happy and thankful for this amazing year that we had.  TheHubs and myself have been blessed beyond measure.   I have seen my family grow and be blessed and I pray for that to continue this coming year. I pray for growth in my family as in a baby....all prayers are welcomed.  I am grateful for this wonderful life that I get to share with my hubs, he is my heart and the love of my life.

Happy Birthday to.........

The most beautiful, the most awesome, the most loving, one of the most important persons in my life -

My Mom!!

I love you!

She wouldn't want me to share her age....so I won't.  But she has raised 3 beautiful daughters (myself included, lol) and 1 handsome son.  She is a grandma to 7 real kids and 3 fur-babies...lol!!  Does this woman look like a grandma to you? Most won't believe it, lol.

I hope that she has a wonderful and blessed day.

Embroidery Art - Day of the Dead Pillow

Where has the year gone?  Can you believe by the end of this week we're already half way through July.  I'm already counting down till we get to October.....I can start decorating for the Holiday's. Woo-Hoo!!!

This project that I'm going to share with you was for one of our great friends Birthday.  Her lovely parents were the lucky ones to receive the Patriotic Pillow.  I want to thank all of the lovely blogger's who featured it.  I tried to grab all of the feature buttons, if I'm missed one I'm sorry - please let me know if you don't see yours.

The theme of this pillow is a little early in the year to celebrate....that is if you do! It is usually celebrated November 1st.  I don't celebrate the day, but I do love the art work of everything.  Some of the art work is simply stunning. If you like that sort of thing. I went on-line to get some inspiration for this project.  If you look up Day of the Dead art, you'll see skulls with flowers, hearts, webs, crosses and swirls, in many different colors.  Well my friend LOOOOOVES this kind of stuff and I knew she would be extremely happy when she saw what I made for her.

Here is some information on Day of the Dead History

(Picture quality is not the best, but I'll try to explain as best as I can.)
1.) I folded a sheet of paper and drew a couple of half skull shapes.
2.) Then I cut them out and decided on the one I liked the best.
3.) I traced (2) skulls on a sheet of blank paper and made copies of that.
4.) Then with the inspiration from the net, I drew out the skulls.  You know it's not very easy to draw teeth.  I had such a hard time, I kept drawing and erasing.
1.) I ended up drawing (8) different skulls, I chose the 4 I liked the best.
2.) I pinned the skulls onto foam board with tissue paper over it to trace.
3.) I then traced the skulls with black permanent marker.
4.)  I cut out the tissue traced skulls and set them aside.
5.)  Now I was ready to start.  I pinned it onto the fabric, then put it onto the hoop.
Embroidering on the tissue paper was easy, I was able to tear away and pick out the pieces.  I didn't really have a plan, I just picked different colors.  As I finished each skull I took it off the hoop to pin the next skull where I wanted it to be.  I really loved the way it all came out.
Drawing out the skulls, embroidery and sewing took me about 27 hours combined....it probably would have been less if I wasn't watching re-runs of Ugly Betty or The Office, lol.
For the back I chose a black with white polka dots.  I have to say my favorite skull has to be the last  one with the blue flower.

I'm happy to say that she was really excited to receive this gift.  I'm glad!!

Thanks for stopping by to view this weeks project.

Everyone have a fabulous week.

"fruits" from the garden

Sadly, not my garden.  I don't even have a garden and the last time I checked, none of my flowers were sprouting fruits or veggies.

This yummy snack was from my friends garden!! She was sweet enough to give me some.

I cucumbers!
They're so refreshing to eat.

These were washed, peeled, sliced and seasoned with salt, pepper and lemon.......DELISH!!

Cucumber facts:

Fruit or Veggie

From a scientific perspective the part of the cucumber plant that we enjoy is a fruit. The cucumber has seeds and is formed from the flower of the plant. At the same time, a cucumber is a vegetable as well. How can a cucumber be a fruit and a vegetable you might ask? The term vegetable is solely used in culinary terms so as far as cooking is concerned, a fruit can be a vegetable, but scientifically speaking, the cucumber is a fruit.

Much of the nutritional value of the cucumber is found in the skin.
Cucumbers are high in vitamins A and C, calcium, and fiber.
Mostly water and nutritional yumminess, cucumbers are very low in calories.
  • Cucumber Fact #1 : Cucumbers are natural diuretics used to help lose weight!
  • Cucumber Fact #2 : Cucumbers sold in supermarkets are coated with a thin layer of wax for preservation that gives the cucumber an unnatural shine. Most of the cucumbers in the home garden are naturally dull green.
  • Cucumber Fact #3 : Soak slicing cucumbers in salt water before slicing to suck some of the moisture out of the cucumber. Sliced cucumbers leak water when sliced.
  • Cucumber Fact #4 : Sliced cucumbers release water and can be used to moisturize the skin. Slices of cucumber placed on the eyes is a common remedy for wrinkles around the eyes.
Enjoy some today!

Wow....who knew that my 200th post would be about cucumbers!!  lol!!  I'm happy to have this blog to share tid-bits from my life, share my crafts/recipes or post sillyness from the day!  Thank you to everyone that has become a new reader of AboutBloggingTime!!  I try my best to respond to each and everyone that comments....even when you have a no reply or no email to reply to, I reply on the post.  So don't think that I don't read them.
It's the middle of the year, I wonder how many posts I'll have by December......hmmm that's sounds like I just challenged myself. (",)

Everyone have a great day!

Floss much? Okay that was corny...lol! I made Embroidery Holders

I am soooo late with this post.  I guess I should have probably checked that I actually hit the publish button!  Oh well  it's up now.

Well this post is a half Friday find and a half DIY project.  It's a very easy peasy mac n cheesy kind of project.  The best thing about this project is how simple and practically free it was.

Here is the part that's a Friday find.  Ooooooo colors!!!  I found this colorful box of embroidery thread for less that 5 bucks!!  Yes, you read correctly less than 5 bucks.   There are 105 skeins of thread, 5 for each color, can you say score!  I will be going back to check if there are more in different colors.  This box was labeled "Bright Colors"  and it was to make bracelets.   I said nuh uh -  I'm making something else.  I could not pass it up.

Don't they look lovely, all neat and in order?

Ok, now for the little DIY project....that was free and easy to make.  I used my pinking shears, some cardboard scraps and cut 2" x 3" little rectangles.

Then I made a little snip near the top.  Be sure to not cut too close to the top.

Then I took this hot mess and wrapped my little heart out.  I started at the center of the cardboard piece, then wrapped and wrapped, when I was close to the end I made my way to the top, near the little snip I made.  Then I tucked the tail in.  It took just as long as making a yarn wreath, which takes about a billion years to begin with.  LOL!

I'm glad that's done!!  Look how nice and neat it looks now.  I also used a marker to label the top of the cardboard with the # for the embroidery floss.  I have like 6 different blues and they all look the same to me.  The # will help when I need to buy more.

I know that stores sell the holders for this, but I like it better this way.  If you look closely, I cut tall and short cardboard pieces and used some clothes pins.
1.  I was able to use cardboard that was destined to fill the garbage can.
2.  Free, free, free
3.  Hellooooooo it's cute!

Aaaaaaannnnnnd, the little basket was a Goodwill find for
Dunnn, dunnn, dunnnn  .67 cents.

Okay, enough of my babbling I hope you have a fabulous day.

Thanks for stopping by.

Spring cleaning in the yard!!

Besides scrap busting for the past couple of weeks, I have also been doing a little Spring cleaning in the yard.  Well when I say "I", I really mean "we" as in theHubs and myself.  He cuts the yard and edges and I do the weed pulling, planting and sprucing.  This is sort of looooong post, but I have pics!  "You've been warned" lol!

March was here and then it was gone, I kept putting off the yard work.  I had no motivation to get in the backyard and clear thing up...it was getting kind of ugly back there.  Looking in the back yard is kind of scary....weeds up to my eyeballs, which isn't saying much because I'm like 5'2, there are spiders in the grass, wasps and bees a buzzing, ants.  Fun times!!

Look at this....ocean of weeds!!  Looks like a family of Leprechaun's invaded my space. This stuff was in the WHOLE BED.  Which is about 50 ft across and varies between 3, 5, 8, and 12 feet wide in some places.  Every time I pull weeds from this bed, I ask myself....."WHY"  well more like screaming that is.  I knew it had to be done.....theHubs said he would hire someone to come and clean it out, but I said why should we waste money paying someone to do this.  Plus, I could use that money to buy more plants or potting soil. So I got to it and started.  One Sunday, took me about 5 hours minus this corner below.

See this pic below....well in this corner there should be a moss rock border, Lantana bushes, a hibiscus plant...I think. Sometimes I wish we had nothing back there, it's too much work.  But then I'd be mad because I'd want plants and color back there.

I was there another weekend and only got halfway done here...I started to see my plants! Now you can see the rock border too!!  I just wish you couldn't see the cable boxes.  Thanks "SBC"  why did my yard have to have them....oh well once the plants start growing you can barely see them.

This is what I did on Good Friday!!  It doesn't look like much yet....I have to wait a couple more weeks before the flowering plants start blooming.  I also added a Yellow Lady Banks Rose bush....I can't wait to see that start to crawl.

This whole bed was full of weeds!  The biggest tree here is a Texas Lilac, it can be trained to grow as a bush or as a tree.  I loooooove this tree,  it has about a zillion buds on it and it looks awesome with its flowers.  The only bad thing about this tree is the tree leaves look very similar to a marijuana leaf...weird, lol!!  I can assure you, there is no illegal plant growing going on in my back yard.  I have a Bradford pear tree,  a couple of Crab Apple  trees, Althea bushes, and a Rose of Sharon bush, Lantana bushes, sage bushes.  The knockout rose bush is in full bloom....even though it hurt me to my heart to hack it up, it was getting kind of wild.  See below ↓ I cant wait till all the color comes in.  It looks amazing....then when fall comes it looks sad and pathetic no color and no leaves.  I can see the backs of my neighbors houses and we have no privacy at all.  Due to deed restrictions we can't put in 8 ft fences....booooooooo. And since we to share fences with 4 different houses it would be kind of hard to get any of the neighbors to pitch in any funds to replace the fence.  That's the burbs for you.

Lookie here.... we have some buggy competition going on.  It's good and bad....these are the leaves to the Crab Apple tree.  So now they're gonna get eaten by the caterpillars...and I saw like a billion of them.  No worries,  they asked for permission and I said as long as you turn into lovely butterflies and visit it would be okay.

The Crab Apple is full of blooms too!!  Soooo pretty!

The front yard is pretty much full of colors.  I love it!  This plant below is a Duranta bush and will flower all the way to Fall.

Pretty right???? Next to it I have some Morning Glory and Passion vines crawling.

Hey lil fella...what'cha doing there.

With all the Spring cleaning going on, I broke all my nails, went through 2 pairs of garden gloves, got bit by ants (knee, arm, shoulder, hands, ankles, thigh, and a toe)....why do their bites hurt so bad, killed  6 (BIG) spiders, scraped my calf with the shovel, got a lil sunburned, almost ate a knat, almost stung by a red wasp - there's a nest in one of the bird houses and had a lizard jump on my leg.  I told theHubs that I'm glad we only do this a couple days out of the year....my back was killing me.  See fun times!

I hope you enjoyed my Spring post.  Thank you for stopping by.

I surely have the Sweetest Valentine!!

My hubby is awesome!!
This sneaky guy woke up early to put my gift into my truck, so I'd see it getting into the vehicle!

Well look what I received for Valentine's Day! I am soooo happy, I've been eyeballing the thing every time we go to BestBuy.  I already have a e-reader, not a top brand but it works.  So I didn't necessarily need to have it. But every time I saw the KindleFire I swear I heard heavenly voices singing, lol!!

Thanks honey buns, I love you!!  Not only today, but forever!

Mondays!!

We all have them.....
some have bad ones, some have good ones.

This Monday is not bad. But I'm excited about NEXT Monday!!
Why......
Oh it's my Birthday!! Yay!!

it's my birthday, it's my birthday....we're gonna party like it's my birthday!!!

Since Valentines day and my birthday are only six days apart.... I don't ask for anything fancy, I don't demand 2 gifts, I'm not picky - most of the time, I don't need to be lavished with diamonds - I already have them. I don't go bonkers because I didn't get flowers, or the giant bear that is bigger than my lil ole 5'1-5'2 self....<---man, I'm short! lol!

Fifi made this*!
Why do they make bears this big anyways? lol!!

I've never been one to want expensive things or dinners at big restaurants.  The hubs spoils me all year round, I have every thing I need and most things that I want. I'm happy with a card and chocolates. I just don't understand people going broke for holidays or birthdays.

Whatever you do I hope it makes you HAPPY!

Valentines day will be Chinese take-out and movies for us!  and a Weekend get away for my birthday!  With a spa day thrown in the mix!  Massage, mani, pedi, facial, lunch!!  I love this particular spa,  they are sooooo nice and all the girls always do a great job with whatever they're doing.  I can't wait.

Happy Early Valentines Day to everyone!!
