Tasty Tuesday - Easy Cheesy Bread

I'm so happy - Houston has some cooler weather in the forecast.  It makes me even more excited for the Fall/Winter weather.  So I really hope it stays a while.  There's nothing suckier than having a warm Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas!
On to Tasty Tuesday......

This is super easy and quick to make at home with bread slices or left over burger or hot dog buns.  I don't know why we always have buns left over, but we do and I try to use them.

Sometimes theHubs will ask for some toasty bread to go along with dinner and I'm happy to oblige.  He'll usually ask when we have "said" leftover bread/buns.  Which is great because, the only thing that I hate to do more is walk into the grocery store to buy 1 thing like bread or a oddball list of items like - Drain-O, Jello, and charcoal. Yup, weird stares galore.  Can you say episode of "Snapped", lol!!   Which by the way is our favorite show to watch on Sundays, we're just weird like that!  We have some deep convo's on some of those episodes, lol!  Anyways back to the bread.

1) Set the oven to 400°
2) Prepare bread -
I butter both sides,
sprinkle with garlic salt,
a little shredded cheese and
dried parsley.
(this stuff can be
put on the 1 top side)
3) Put bread on foiled baking pan (I use the pizza pan)
4) Then pop them into the oven and bake for 5-7 minutes.
It varies so you might want to keep an eye on it.

Yummy and easy!

Have a great day!

I felt like I was sewing foreeeeeeeever!

Not really, it actually didn't take that long, it was the prep that took a while.
I must say you will be bombarded with a ton of pics.....sorry for that.  I'm a visual person, I like to see pictures and I feel that you will understand it better if you can see what I'm seeing.  I'm a weirdo like that, when people talk I have to see their mouth moving, if not all I hear is mumbles. LOL!!

Okay, now on to the project.  I have been wanting a mat for the entrance to my craft room.  Why you may ask....oh just because.  Well I went on a adventure looking for the right materials to make it.  I definitely didn't want to spend lots of money and I knew I wanted something handmade. By me, duh!! I went to Goodwill, sadly I couldn't find anything that I was totally in love with.  Now I realize I could have gone to Wally World to buy a cheapie for 5 bucks, but what would be the fun in that.  Then I went to $ tree and bought 200 feet of poly rope.  That cost me about 4 bucks.

When I went to another Goodwill, I found this twin sheet for 3 bucks, it would have to do.  All the way home I thought about how I could snazz it up a bit.
I decided I would make some of the colors pop.  Boy, was I in over my head.   With 3 fine tip markers I went about my merry little way and outlined the green, pink and dark pink prints.  For this twin size sheet it took me 6 hours to finish!
Can you see the change?  It went from Dull to Cheery!
After the (6) hours, my fingers were cramping, my neck was aching from looking down and I had a headache from the permanent marker smell....but I was happy to be done with that.  Now I was ready to cut and tear.  What??  ←  that's what theHubs said....after all that you're going to cut it up.  Yup!  I took the pinking sheers and snipped about every 1 inch along the edge.  Then I just ripped it into what you see below.
Sorry, I didn't take a picture of the part where I tied the end of the rope and the end of the strip together.  Then I wrapped the rope a couple of times to cover it.  To start off the mat I folded the start of the wrapped rope down about 2 inches  (like this ║) then I sewed it together.  Then I just continued wrapping, turning, and sewing.
I used a zig-zag stitch for the whole mat.  I kept the center of the rope and the center of the foot aligned so I could get the zig-zag on both sides.  (╥)
Okay, I'm a lefty and I do most things backwards!! Lol!!  Well, this was totally my fault for not thinking this through.  I'm so impatient sometimes and I pay for it with mess ups like this.  When I was done with my first 50 feet of wrapped rope....I had a curving bowl mat......NOOOOOOOOOO!  Yeah, instead of running it through and turning left I was turning right.  So hence the almost bowl.  I had to start again and I did it correctly.  I took the seam ripper to the bowl and used this piece at the end.  So, it worked out.
See, I'm doing it the right way here!!
Please ignore the Hobbit feet below!!  Geez, they look like stand in feet for the Lord Of the Rings movies, lol!!  There are shadows around, I don't have cankles okay! My feet are little and cute...so theHubs says, lol!! I love to stand on it barefoot because it's always cool.
I really love the way it turned out!  Even though it did take the (6) hours to add the color I'm glad I did....it pops right?
I'm really tempted to make a bigger one...who knows maybe I will!  So in total it cost be less than $8.00 and my time.
I'm glad you stopped by to check out the latest project.  Everyone have a great week.

Thursday Tip! In the Kitchen

Cooking in the kitchen always leaves me with leftover ingredients....why because I only cook dinner for 2 people.  Myself and theHubs.  Well one item that I do use quite often is tomato sauce, yes from a can!  Don't judge, lol!  So, when I open a can I only use about 3 tablespoons worth at one time. Then I'm left with a almost full can.

Hmmmm.....what to do with the leftover?

Duh, You freeze it!

Just pour the left over sauce into an ice tray and pop it in the freezer!  When I need to use some I just take out about 3 cubes.

Tasty Tuesday - Donuts, the poor man variety! YUMMMMM!!!

A few weeks ago while browsing blog land I came across a post from The Momma Hen at Momma Hen's Frugal Life.  I absolutely love her blog.  She does some amazing stuff, in her home.  So go and check her out.  Well she had a post about these..... yummy poor man donuts. I wrote to her telling her that my mom would make these for us all the time, and that I was going home to make them. Weeeell it only took me a couple of weeks, but I finally remembered to buy the stuff last week.  The hubs had never eaten them as donuts before, so I made him some.  I don't know if this is done everywhere but they do serve fried biscuits dipped in sugar at some of the Chinese food buffets, you know....since I live in TX near Houston (aka the fattest city in the US, hmmm I wonder if we're still #1).  LOL!!

Here is what I used:
biscuits (homestyle)
cooking oil
sugar/ cinnamon
butter

Open the biscuits and lay them out on a plate.

Now to make my donuts.  You can use your thumb or a soda top to make the holes.  I used the soda top.

When the oil is hot enough, carefully place the dough in the pan.

The yummy little things will cook up fast, so keep a close eye on them.  You want them a golden brown then flip and do the other side.  I had a slight casualty burn on one of the donuts, I turned away to mix the cinnamon and sugar.

I don't know what happened to the picture but, put the donuts on a napkin to absorb the oil.  Melt some butter and mix up your sugar & cinnamon. The donuts will still be warm.  Carefully dip one side of the donut into the butter, then do the other side.  Then gently press it into the sugar, flip and repeat.

Can you see my casualty donut?

See all gone.....even with a few little burnt spots. Okay before you think OMG little piggy ate them all...they were really small and I helped out.  Hubby gave two thumbs up for these!  I can't make these all the time...it would really kill our diets.

Thursday Tip! In the Kitchen

I don't know about you but I sure do like to make and drink sweet tea.  Maybe it's a southern thing, but it sure is the best.   I can't stand that fake powder crap...yuck! So you won't find that in my pantry.  I make it all year round. I have my way of making it - how many bags to boil, how many scoops of sugar to stir in, how much water to add in the pitcher.  My brother and I will compete and see who makes it the best....

Of course I saw this tip on Pinterest!!
And you know what? It really worked!

The Proof!

I'm not going to go into scientific details...so don't ask!  I just put a wooden spoon over the pot and it worked.  My tea didn't boil over.  If you use this tip, you will still want to keep an eye on it, just like you would with anything you have on the stove.

Guess what I did last night?

Besides burning my finger tips off.  Yup, I made more Pebbles Pics.
Well this batch was made with different Christmas pics.

Again, this is not really a tutorial since I didn't take any pics of the how-to part.  But they are super easy to make and make great little gifts.

Here's what was used:
glue gun/glue sticks
glass pebbles from $ store
scissor/blade
magnets
Christmas pics

Once you decide on the pics you will use,  apply glue to the flat side of the pebble and press firmly on to the pic until all the air bubbles reach the end.  Then let the glue cool, now you are ready to cut the excess glue and paper off. (Adults should do this part if you decide to make this with kids.) Since I use the magnet tape, I just cut off a piece and remove the backing and stick onto the pebble pic.

These pics are from a Holiday scrapbook magazine.

These are ornament pics from the Target catalog.

These pics are from different Christmas wrapping paper I have.

These pics are from old Pottery Barn Holiday catalogs.

Random pics from a holiday magazine.

cute huh!!

Well I hope you liked my Christmas Pebble.

A wing for you....a wing for me!!

Chicken Wings.....

These little morsels of  yummy goodness can be flavored with anything you want.....garlic, hot sauce, Parmesan, butter, lemon pepper......oh my this could go on forever!  Mmmmm!
Today I'm sharing a step by step way of how I make my wings.  I'm sure you've read a million different ways of making them and everyone has a different style, technique, or  trick they use.  But this is my way!!  So go ahead make them and let me know what you think!  I'd really like to know.  I'm a very visual person....I like to see what is going on, how it's being done that's why there's so many pictures.   Enjoy

What you will need:
  • A pack of chicken wings (thawed)
  • 2 table spoons of butter
  • 2 table spoons of olive oil
  • Pam/Veg.oil to grease dish
  • Flavoring/Seasoning for wings
  • Casserole dish
  • Meat Shears
  • Colander
Directions:
  • Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees (standard U.S. oven)
  • Grease casserole dish
  • Put chicken wings into the colander and rinse with cold water  (no need to pat dry)

(steps continue under the picture)

Using the shears I clip off the extra wing piece.

Then use the shears to cut the leg from the wing.

Arrange wings in the greased dish.  With this pack of
wings of was able to get a total of 30 pieces.

Now drizzle with olive oil, I usually eyeball it but it's about 2 tbl. spoons.

Now put into the oven.

After about 30 minutes, I take out the dish and turn the wings over.
Put them back in for another 15-20 minutes.  You can determine the
crispiness you desire. As long as the meat is cooked. ☺

Separate into 2 bowls

Yummy!

Today I'm using the AWESOME.... Mango Habanero from Buffalo Wild Wings,
and regular ole lemon-pepper seasoning....YUMMY!!
The jar of MH is about 6 dollars and the lemon-pepper seasoning was about a buck.

Add your seasoning or flavor you chose.

Mix well, butter should melt.

While still in the bowls, I pop them back into the over for about 5 minutes.

While the wings are in the oven, I get my serving plate and dipping bowl.
Since this is just for my hubby and myself a little plastic container will do.

Put dipping container in the center of plate and pour out your dipping sauce.

This is a Ranch Dressing family.....so we tend to use a lot of ranch dressing, lol!

After the 5 minutes are up, carefully take out the hot bowls.
Now transfer the wings to the plate.  I have my MH
on one side and the lemon pepper on the other side

There you have it!!

Well I hope you've enjoyed this and will try it out yourself!!  Let me know how they come out!!  Everyone have a great day!
